Mike Donilon has built a reputation as one of the most talented strategists in the Democratic Party. Before joining AKPD, Donilon served as Senior Adviser to Vice President Joe Biden, whom he’s advised since 1981.
Donilon has played key roles in the presidential campaigns of every Democratic nominee since President Bill Clinton, and has helped elect more than 25 Democratic Senators and Governors.
In 2012, Donilon was a member of President Obama’s advertising team, writing and producing spots that stood out for their sharp messaging.
Donilon has provided strategic advice and led the creative efforts in numerous statewide campaigns, including those for Senator Bill Nelson (D-FL), Senator Jack Reed (D-RI), Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), Senator and Governor Mark Dayton (D-MN), and Senator and Governor Jon Corzine (D-NJ).
In 2006 and 2008, Donilon created the advertising for the DSCC’s independent expenditure campaigns for Senator Claire McCaskill (D-MO), Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ), Senator Mark Udall (D-CO), and Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH).
For over 30 years, Donilon has been at the center of some of the most remarkable campaigns in the nation — from Governor Doug Wilder’s historic victory in Virginia to Senator Harris Wofford’s stunning win over Dick Thornburgh to President Clinton’s War Room to President Obama’s “beat-the-odds” reelection in 2012.
Donilon has both an A.B. and a J.D. from Georgetown University.
